Quick guide to upgrade from vCenter Server 7.0 to 8.0

End of General Support – October 2, 2025
Sure, it is not new for you that VMware has announced the End-of-Life (EOL) for vSphere 7. And I’d be suprised if you hasn’t already heared it yet. But better safe then sorry.
Initially, the end of general support was scheduled for April 2, 2025, but this has been extended by six months to October 2, 2025. This extension provides organizations with additional time to upgrade their systems and transition to newer versions like vSphere 8. vSphere 8 offers several advantages, including enhanced performance with DPU- and GPU-based acceleration, seamless integration into hybrid cloud environments, and greater efficiency through the VMware Cloud Console. It is particularly well-suited for companies using Kubernetes clusters or running high-performance workloads, making it a future-proof choice.
Using unsupported software carries significant risks. Security vulnerabilities remain unpatched, making systems more susceptible to attacks, and there are no further technical updates or support available. This can result in data loss, system outages, and potentially high costs due to cyberattacks or legal implications. Upgrading to vSphere 8 is not only an investment in the future but also a safeguard against the risks posed by outdated software.
